May 4th-Music on the Sound 7:30 pm
Please join us on Saturday May 4th for an evening of Music on the Sound! This perfectly balanced program – conceived as a sort of musical palindrome - centers on the music of Bach and Telemann, in addition to music originating in England and Italy from the Renaissance and Baroque eras. The performance will feature a range of sizes and styles of recorders, each sure to beguile and captivate with their different characters. Suggested Donation: $20 Reception following the performance. A donation of non-perishable food to the church's food basket would be appreciated. The basket is in the Narthex as you enter the church. For more information call the church office at (631) 473-0147
April 18th Tenebrae Service of Shadows 7:30pm
The Tenebrae Service, which will be preceded by Holy Communion, is an adaptation of an early Fourth Century Worship Service. Literally meaning “Shadows” or “Darkness”, this Service of Shadows utilizes sacred scripture and music to interpret the Passion (suffering) of Christ. The gradual extinguishing of candles symbolizes the growing shadow of the crucifixion looming over Jesus and his isolation in darkness as his disciples desert him. The congregation is invited to leave the church in silence, reflecting on our Savior's suffering, loneliness, and death for our sakes.
